On Thursday July 16th Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe forced through the ratification of a new interpretation of Article 9 in the Japanese constitution. Article 9 it the peace clause that removes the right of Japan to use its military in any other form than self-defense. Abe's reinterpretation allows for collective self-defence which many in Japan fear will mean Japanese soldiers going to war to support America or other allies. Around 10,000 to 15,000 people attended the demos that have been on going since the reinterpretation was first discussed and policy made, last year. Several politicians from the opposition DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) and the SEALD student group also attended the rally.
