Despite mask wearing being a common occurrence in Japan, even before the Coronavirus hit a few protestors can be found most weekends at stations in Tokyo and elsewhere protesting wearing masks for what they believe a a Pandemic lie. Many protestors support controversial YouTuber and leader of the Popular Sovereignty Party, Masayuki Hiratsuka, who unsuccessfully ran for election in the July Tokyo Gubernatorial Election. with the slogan “Coronavirus is just a cold”. The group began holding "cluster festivals" on trains putting other passengers at risk of infection, and around Tokyo stations opposing any government action to combat the Pandemic.
