Thousands of Japanese and Myanmar nationals protested outside the Japanese Foreign Ministry inTokyo on Wednesday February 3rd 2021, calling on the Japanese government to act decisively and urgently over the recent coup in Myanmar. Myanmar is a major trading partner ofJapan and many protesters held flags of Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD), and portraits of the detained leader herself along with former President, Win Myint, as they chanted "Free Aung San Suu Kyi" and "Free Myanmar" The military coup in Myanmar took place on February 1st after the general election in November 2020 result, which saw a landslide victory for Aung San Suu Kyi's NLD party had been disputed buy the military-backed opposition parties.
