
Crystal Buddhas at the Ruriden in Tokyo (14 images)
The Ruriden mausoleum at the Koukoko-ji Temple in Ichgaya in Tokyo, Japan houses over 2,000 Buddha statues carved from crystal that are illuminated by LED lights. Family members of those whose remains are interned here can enter the a PIN code to turn on the light display and pinpoint there Buddha statue that is attached to the deceased. It is a very modern very spectacular way of dealing with death in the rapidly ageing Japanese society.
