Fumiaki Hoshino was a student activist during the turbulent anti-Vietnam war demos of the 1970s. He was arrested in 1975 for the murder of a policeman in a riot in Shibuya in 1971 and sentenced to life imprisonment despite there being important issues with the case that cast doubt on Hoshino's guilt.
