Makunduchi fighting festival

Women, dressed in their finest clothes, run around a small hut that has been set alight during the Makunduchi fighting festival. As the flames engulfed the hut a man, who had been waiting inside, jumps out to signify that no-one would die in a house fire in the coming year. Zanzibar, Tanzania, Africa. July 1997
